San Jose, June 26, 2015. The multinational company Cargill opened its Cargill Business Services (CBS) center in Costa Rica. This business unit will provide services to the Americas in the areas of Finance and Human Resources, and in the future it will add services in information technology, strategic sourcing, transportation and logistics.

Cargill decided to accelerate its adoption of shared services for their global businesses to have increased focus on customers, innovation and competition.

The President of the Republic, Luis Guillermo Solis, said “Cargill CBS honors Costa Rica to trust the national talent to carry out its new services project. We hope that in the coming months the company will give us more good news that benefit more Costa Ricans by providing quality jobs. ”

The Minister of Foreign Trade, Alexander Mora, said “foreign investment continues to generate new opportunities for well-paid jobs for Costa Ricans. Cargill is a clear example of how multinational companies decide to expand their operations in Costa Rica to bring new business and give value added to their business hand in hand with Costa Ricans. ”

Kathy Fortmann, president of Cargill Business Services, commented “The selection of Costa Rica as one of the locations for the CBS center shows the strategic importance of the country for Cargill, which celebrates its 150th anniversary worldwide”.

The Managing Director of CINDE, Jorge Sequeira, said “The services sector remains the most dynamic in job creation amongst the sectors of foreign investment that CINDE works. This sector recorded an average annual generation of 3,500 to 4,000 high-quality jobs related to information technology, administration, finance, accounting, and engineering, among others. We thank Cargill for having taken the decision to install its new operation in Costa Rica, we are confident it will continue to grow robustly “.

Costa Rica was elected for the installation of the shared services center mainly because it is close to the business of the company and its workforce is of very high quality. Cargill has been operating in Costa Rica since 1999, acquiring the processed meats company Cinta Azul, and tripling in size in 2011 with the acquisition of Pipasa.

Today, with three business units, Cargill Animal Nutrition, Cargill Meats Central America and Cargill Business Services (CBS), their locations employ more than 4,500 people in the country.
