Sykes Enterprises, Incorporated Announces New U.S. Call Center
TAMPA, FL, April 23, 1998 – Sykes Enterprises, Incorporated (“Sykes”) (Nasdaq:SYKE) announced today that it will locate its newest domestic technical support center in Manhattan, KS, its second such facility in Kansas. Sykes currently operates nine domestic technical centers and 11 international centers.
The new 42,500 square foot, state-of-the art call center in Manhattan is being constructed consistent with the Company’s continued projected growth and is expected to be fully operational in the third quarter of 1998. It will add capacity of 432 seats on a single shift basis to the information technologies company’s approximate 5,300 seats worldwide. Technicians in Manhattan are expected to handle Sykes’ customers’ technical support calls for computer hardware and software applications.
“We are pleased to announce that our newest facility will be built in Manhattan,” stated John Sykes, Chairman and CEO of Sykes. “Manhattan, KS, the home of Kansas State University, is an ideal site location for us due to its demographic profile and population. Manhattan, as with other communities where our domestic call centers are located, allowed us to receive incentives consistent with those received in other American communities. Essentially, these incentives enable us to build a ‘high tech’ call center at a ‘no cost’ basis, allowing us to remain competitive and efficient.”
“This is an outstanding opportunity to grow Manhattan’s tax base and invest in the future of our community,” Steve Hall, Mayor of Manhattan, said. “Sykes epitomizes the type of company we envisioned when the goals for economic development were formulated. It is the most significant commitment of Manhattan Economic Development Opportunity funds and has the greatest potential for job creation. I look forward to the community partnership with Sykes,” stated Bruce Snead, former Mayor of Manhattan.
Sykes added, “The spirit of the entire community has confirmed our determination that Manhattan should be the site of our next call center. Most of all, we have been impressed with the citizens of Manhattan and how cooperative and enthusiastic they have been in welcoming us to the community. We look forward to being an integral part of Manhattan now and in the future.”
